Dániel Makkai (cultural anthropologist, art educator, performing artist, live-action game designer)
I studied cultural anthropology, ethnomusicology and pedagogy at ELTE Budapest and Paris X Nanterre. In 2006 I started an anthropological research about independent cultural activities in redefined industrial spaces which led me to participate in an international scientific and artistic exchange project called Heterotopia.
During the same period I played improvised music and my most important musical project the experimental band called Dorota was founded in 2009. My diverse art based pedagogical activities are mostly carried out within the Transforming Association (Átváltozó Egyesület). I had several collaboration with Artus Theatre as a creative artist, performer and musician.
In the frame of an international artistic research project Picture: Budapest -Østfold I carried out some experimental form of narrative and cooperative games wich has a continuation in my recent project.
I try to synthesize scientific, artistic and pedagogical approaches and find a variety of its embodiments in musical and theatre performances, workshops, and in more experimental forms such as community and location based interventions, mixed-reality experience design, open-ended game events.

Artopolis Association was created in 2008 with the mission of focusing on the field of site-specific performance and in a wider context, art in public space. The association’s main ac-tivity is organising the annual festival PLACCC which presents an international and local selection of site-specific art forms. Artopolis Association organised the first edition of PLACCC Festival in October 2008 with the support of Budapest Autumn Festival. The first festival presented 3 international projects over 5 days and attracted more than 800 specta-tors. In 2010 a smaller PLACCC event has be organised in Pécs in May beside the regular festival in Budapest organized in September. In 2013, Artopolis organised two festivals in Budapest : one in May in the Csepel neigh-bourhood and another in September in the city-centre. The festival always programmes Hungarian and foreign artists creating site-specifically.
