UZ Arts is a Scottish charity that develops, commissions, produces and distributes the work of artists in all art forms. We seek to explore new economies and create platforms that make innovative art accessible to the widest audiences.
We work predominately outdoors or in unconventional venues often with artists seeking to move out of their comfort zones across art-forms and across borders
The United Kingdom (UK)
Founding member of IN SITU in 2003
UZ Arts was established in 2011 as a charity to support every aspect of the creation and distribution of art. It builds upon the legacy of UZ Events established in 1994 to create large - scale festivals and events for Scotland. UZ Arts supports artists who wish to work across borders and artforms and outside conventional venues through residencies, commissioning, presenting and sometimes touring their work. UZ manages the international artist residency programme at the Sura Medura Centre in Sri Lanka. It commissions through the support of Creative Scotland and as UK representative of the European network IN SITU.
The company creates innovative cultural platforms that support partnerships between the public and private sector, the artistic and wider communities. In 2012 UZ established the Scottish network “Roofless” to support producers who wished to present art in public space in Scotland with partners from the Shetland Islands in the north to Dumfries and Galloway in the South-West. In 2015 UZ launched a new festival “Galoshans” in Greenock Scotland with a national and international programme inspired by an ancient local practice celebrating Halloween - “when two worlds meet” and an international annual symposium “MovingOut” exploring development in art in public space in Sri Lanka and Scotland.
