Biography

Romane Piffaut is a French-Portuguese choreographer and performer based in France. She founded Compagnie QUAI6 in 2019. Her work explores how bodies organise and support one another in response to constraint, generating collective strength and forms of resistance. She creates choreographic frameworks in which movement emerges through adjustment and cooperation. The body is understood as a political space of shared responsibility.
The company carries the collective project TURBA – توربا, a research and co-creation platform bringing together dancers, musicians, and visual artists between France and Morocco. The collective develops performances primarily in public space, as well as site-specific projects.The name TURBA – توربا , meaning “crowd” in Latin and “earth” in Arabic, highlights an attention to both gathered bodies and the territories they move through and inhabit.

Artistic project

TURBA توربا  WALK is a participatory choreographic walk in which moving forward together becomes an experience of negotiation, listening and cooperation.  Deprived of sight by plaster masks, several performers set off from different points in the city, entrusting their movements to the audience, who must organise, negotiate and invent their own ways of moving forward and guiding them.  This shared responsibility transforms how bodies move, communicate and interact with their surroundings. Movements slow down, attention shifts, and new forms of communication emerge through touch, breath and sound. A step, a pavement, a pedestrian crossing or the proximity of another body suddenly takes on a different importance.  The walk is accompanied by audio stories collected from local residents, offering an intimate and subjective reading of the city as an alternative to dominant narratives.  At the destination, the different groups converge to form a single crowd.  Conceived as an adaptable choreographic form, TURBA WALK evolves according to the territories and contexts in which it takes place. Through video and sound recordings, we aim to build an archive that connects the different spaces explored and the collective experiences that emerge within them.
