Biography

Romane Piffaut is a French-Portuguese choreographer and performer based in France. She founded Compagnie QUAI6 in 2019. Her work explores how bodies organise and support one another in response to constraint, generating collective strength and forms of resistance. She creates choreographic frameworks in which movement emerges through adjustment and cooperation. The body is understood as a political space of shared responsibility.
The company carries the collective project TURBA – توربا, a research and co-creation platform bringing together dancers, musicians, and visual artists between France and Morocco. The collective develops performances primarily in public space, as well as site-specific projects. The name TURBA – توربا , meaning “crowd” in Latin and “earth” in Arabic, highlights an attention to both gathered bodies and the territories they move through and inhabit.

Artistic project

TURBA توربا WALK is a choreographic walking performance in public space, developed through a multidisciplinary collaboration. The project addresses urban accessibility through a collective walk.
Wearing plaster masks, the four performers move in a state of deliberate vulnerability and dependence. This condition transfers responsibility to the public, who are invited to guide the group, organise its progression, and ensure the safe unfolding of the performance.
This constraint generates a specific physicality: the performers’ bodies slow down and remain alert, listening through touch, breath, and sound in order to invent new ways of communicating, supporting one another, and staying connected.
The piece explores how a group coordinates, negotiates obstacles, and attunes itself to both others and its environment. It offers an embodied experience of navigating the site, heightening awareness of how space is perceived, crossed, and shared.
Conceived as an adaptable choreographic form, TURBA توربا  WALK evolves according to the territories and contexts in which it takes place.
