An artistic experiment across cities, technologies and realities
UNREAL STATE began with a series of questions about technology, political systems, and the increasingly unstable boundaries between physical and digital reality. Through IN SITU's coproduction support programme, these questions gradually evolved into an interactive walking performance (that also functions as an RPG game) where participants explore a city while navigating a separate, fictional State via their phones.
The project developed through experiments, technical challenges, collective work, and encounters with different cities and audiences. Each presentation brought new questions about what it means to create a site-specific experience when part of the site exists only on a screen.
This video follows that process: the attempt to transform an artistic idea into a participatory experience, the discoveries made along the way, and the evolution of a project that is still being built.
