a participatory performance addressing street harassment
PARADES is a participatory, site-specific performance that explores lived experiences of harassment and discrimination toward women, racialized / queer / plus-sized / disabled people, among so many others, in public space. The show brings together a professional team and a group of amateur protagonists recruited locally, drawing on their own experiences and building together a joyous rite of passage. The project's approach favors resilience over victimization, awareness-raising over accusation, and empathy over moralizing.
