Marking the start of a new four-year cycle for IN SITU

Lieux Publics and Oerol Festival co-organised the IN SITU PLATFORM first public meeting, from June 17 to 19, 2025, on the island of Terschelling in The Netherlands.

Oerol Festival 2025
Oerol offers a rich programme for cultural professionals, providing opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, and explore site-specific work in context. From networking events and artist presentations to in-depth discussions, the festival is a key meeting place for those working in public space and landscape-based art.   

International professionals programme 
The international professionals programme was held from 17 to 19 June, bringing together artists, programmers, and funders from across Europe and beyond. The three-day event is designed to celebrate the start of the project and to present it to a broad range of international professionals. In addition to a rich artistic programme, this international gathering will propose workshops and talks focusing on best practices in artistic development of emerging works and the importance of cross sector relationships with site-specific practices.

This event is the first public gathering of the PLATFORM project supported by the Europe Creative programme and is co-organised with Oerol Festival, a long-term and core partner of IN SITU.

Programme: 

  • June 17 Festival meets context with an introduction of IN SITU, panels and interactive workshop with Caroline Archambrault. Partners from the IN SITUecosystem was also present and introduced their activities: Magic Carpets, SPOT festival, KIOSK Festival, Aurillac Festival
  • June 18 IN SITU partners' meeting where the outcomes of the activities implemented so far were discussed and the next steps planned. It was followed by a public session 'Connecting with IN SITU PLATFORM' from the lens of partners and artists.   
  • June 19 Landscape in practice with keynote from Land Art Lives by Anne Reenders , an interactive workshop based on Oerol’s Ecological Compass and a discussion from fellow European network LAND about how they work in landscapes and communities.
  • In the afternoons, a curated selection of artistic performances or installations among others:
    • Cristina Maldonado with "Infinite game" and "I'm here I'm not"
    • Abhishek Thapar / Afra Tafri Creations with "Lacuna Kitchen"
    • Elmo Vermijs with "Vergaan"
    • Via Berlin with "When did you leave?"
