Moving between cities (in DE, FR, UK and BE) when growing up and since, I've spent quite some time observing in order to understand a [new] place and its stories. Telling stories often plays a main role in work I've made.
In the work with textiles and other materials, I search for their functional qualities as well as the stories already present in the material; for this reason, I often resort to secondhand materials and their layers of narratives. In Belgium I studied theatre costume and continued artistic research in an advanced MA. I works as seamstress, costume- and puppet maker, whilst also having taken part in exhibitions.
I've worked mostly in theatre-, as well as dance projects, and began in the past year to extend my work into puppetry.
‘A day in a city’ is a mobile puppet play mounted on a bike trailer to be moved from city to village by bike and public transport.
A first prototype was developed in 2025. It is a 30 min piece on said trailer, running on a 12V battery, car radio + speakers, a 4V LED screen for surtitles and LED lights.
The title “a day in a city” derives from the artistic research I have been working on: from making costumes and masks for city-archetypes I went to writing tales of a city, and then made this piece depicting a day like any other in a city; including an eviction and suspicious [money] transfers.
In the tales I am looking for narratives about dynamics shaping the life in the western-european cities I have lived in, such as city development plans interfering with the right to housing. In the current play this takes the shape of a crow having to leave their nest behind, as the city is cutting down all the trees, and a wolf trying to buy a flat for their family with a suitcase full of sand."
